American women football team slipped to No.2 Ranking

After quite a while, the American women football team has slipped down to no. 2 in the FIFA World rankings.

The American women had been at the top for the last 7 years, but, because of their recent defeats, they have lost that position and it’s Germany which is the no. 1 team in the world now.

Germany has recently beaten the likes of England and also, Sweden.

America doesn’t need to worry too much though. Their team is still pretty good and probably the strongest contender to become the world champion next year. They have been given a tough group in the World Cup, but, still, they can be backed to come through it.

The teams which are there in America’s group are Nigeria, Australia and Sweden.

The World Cup is starting in the middle of 2015.

The teams that can give America tough fight for the World Cup title are Japan and the current top rank holders Germany.

The last time that the American women had achieved World glory was more than a decade ago in 1999. Ever since, they have not been able to do that despite having some very strong units over the years.

The America manager Jill Ellis has implemented rotation policy of late to prepare a pool of players out of which she can select her World Cup team.

The concern, however, for her is that her main striker Alex Morgan is still not fit from the ankle blow that she had taken playing in one of the qualifier matches.

The World Cup is some distance away though and it can be hoped that Morgan would be back to fitness by the time the tournament starts.

Morgan has played 77 matches for America so far.
