DE DONK LEAVES ARSENAL FOR LYON

Dutch player Danielle Van de Donk has left North London giants Arsenal to sign for Lyon in France. Her transfer was confirmed by the French club earlier this week. De Donk leaves the womens soccer scene in England to sign for Olympique Lyonnais Femininafter six years.

In 2015, Dutch midfielder De Donk signed for one of the best womens soccer teams in England, Arsenal. She joined Arsenal women from Kopparbergs/Goteborg and went on to become a regular fixture in the Gunners squad until her exit. While she was at Arsenal, De Donk won the League Cup title at the end of the 2017/18 season in addition to the 2015/16 FA Cup title. The Dutch player also played an important role as Arsenal finished the 2018/19 campaign with the league title popularly known as WSL (Women’s Super League). During the 2018/19 season, De Donk weighed in with the attacking return of 13 goals and eight assists in the league to ensure that the Gunners emerged as champions.

CHELSEA RETAIN WSL TITLE

West London giants Chelsea are still the top team in womens soccer in English football after they retained their FA Women’s Super League (WSL) title.

Chelsea sealed their status as the best team in womens soccer this season with the big win over Reading. The victory was more than enough for the Blues to fend off rivals Manchester City in the title race.

WSL: HOW CHELSEA CAN WIN TITLE

Chelsea took a big step towards retaining their FA Women’s Super League (WSL) title with the 2-2 draw with nearest challengers Manchester City on Wednesday. Manchester City would have taken the lead in the title race with a win at home to the Blues. Instead, they had to earn a solitary point after coming frombehind twice against the West London giants.

The Blues showed that they are the team to beat in womens soccer in England when they won the WSL title and it looks like they would remain the best club in womens soccer as far as English football is concerned by retaining their title with two wins from the remaining two games this season.

DERBY WIN BOOSTS CITY TITLE HOPES

Manchester City showed that they are still the favourite women’s soccer team in Manchester following their derby win over Manchester United at the weekend. The derby win was crucial for Manchester City as it helped to boost their hopes of winning the league in women’s soccer in England. The Women’s Super League (WSL) title is firmly in the hands of Chelsea and Manchester City would need more morale boosting wins such as the Manchester Derby victory over the weekend to topple the Blues as the best women’s soccer team in England.


The big win over Manchester United ensured that Manchester City stayed within touching distance of leaders Chelsea, who thrashed Bristol City 5-0 away from home at the weekend to maintain their place as the top team in women’s soccer in England. Chelsea have a five-point lead at the top of the table in the race to win the WSL title this season. Manchester City are the nearest challengers and they have one outstanding game over the Blues. Manchester United women are the league leaders after the first ten league games of the season. The Red Devils have been the dominant force in womens soccer in England this term.

CITY, PSG PROGRESS INTO LAST 16

Womens soccer in Europe has been on the rise in recent times as evident in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) this season. The competition is at the round of 32 stage and the big names of womens soccer in Europe have booked  their place in the next round of the competition. The likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Bayern Munich and Chelsea have all progressed into the last 16 of the competition as they showed why they are the leading teams in womens soccer in Europe.


Manchester City are through to the last 16 of this season’s UEFA Champions League after beating Goteborg of Sweden 3-0 in their second leg meeting through goals from Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway.
